In addition to creating costumes, I also enjoy creating home decor items. My passion for home decor stems from a desire to personalize my living space and create a cozy and comfortable environment. I usually create home decor items out of necessity. If I can’t find a home decor piece that I want ready-made or if I need a custom item of a specific size, I figure out how to create it myself.

One of my favorite home decor projects was creating custom window blinds. I wanted to find a window treatment that would block out the sunlight but also add a touch of elegance to the room. When Ikea discontinued the blinds we wanted for our sunporch, I recreated them based on the one sample I was able to find. The final product not only looked beautiful but also served its functional purpose of blocking out the sunlight.

Another project I tackled was reupholstering a chair. I had found a chair I loved at ReStore, but it was in need of some love. I chose a durable and stylish fabric and carefully reupholstered the piece. The result was a chair that looked like new, was water resistant, and added a pop of color and style to my beach house living room.

I also created a sofa slipcover and various throw pillows to add more color and texture to my living space. These projects allowed me to experiment with different fabrics and textures and add a touch of personalization to my home decor.

In my blog, I have included posts illustrating solutions I’ve found when creating home decor projects. These posts go into detail about my research process, material selection, and construction techniques. I hope these posts can be helpful to anyone who is interested in creating their own home decor items. With a little bit of creativity and some hard work, you can create beautiful and functional home decor items that will enhance the look and feel of your living space.
